Fred Gravel, President
Fred is a Business System Analyst that came from a long history in the Health Care field, to Lethbridge in mid 1998 to contract for the City to bring their legacy applications up to Y2K compliancy. When he was offered a full time position he decided that he liked Lethbridge so much, that he took it and has been here ever since. He became involved with Interfaith Food Bank shortly after moving here, first serving on the Friends Committee for 8 years , and was responsible for the Turkey Trot event that enjoyed a modicum of success, becoming chair of the committee during his last 2 years with them. Then about 2 years ago Fred joined the board believing that the best way to bring about change is from within and for the past while has been working as the Chairman of the Board. In addition to his involvement with Interfaith, Fred runs a local software developers group, called the Lethbridge dotNet User's Group, volunteers with the local Red Cross, and acts as the Reception Center Liason for the City's Disaster Social Services Plan.
Dawn Janecke, Vice President
Dawn was born and raised in Lethbridge and currently works as a Crown Prosecutor with Alberta Justice. She has been on the Interfaith Food Bank Board since 2002, and has been Secretary since 2005. Dawn believes the Food Bank is a great place to volunteer, as the Staff and Volunteers work so hard, and their efforts are sincerely needed and appreciated. Her other volunteer experiences include the City of Lethbridge as Chair of the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Bar Association, and the Pincher Creek Women's Emergency Shelter. Dawn has also taught courses for the Public Legal Education, and as a Guest Lecturer at the Lethbridge College. When she is not at work, Dawn enjoys spending time with her Husband, watching Scooby Doo with her 2 young boys and recently taking care of her new baby girl!
Michael Leusink, Treasurer
Michael grew up in the Picture Butte area on a farm. He attended college and university in Lethbridge and achieved his Chartered Accountant designation in 2008. Michael is currently employed at Meyers Norris Penny LLP. He joined the Interfaith Food Bank Board of Directors as Treasurer in 2008. Michael is married with two young children.
Carol Laycock, Secretary
Carol has taught Speech and Drama for many years, and is in demand across Western Canada as a performer, director, adjudicator, and clinician. She holds a B.A. in Speech and Drama from Brigham Young University and an Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama from Trinity College, London, England. Carol is founder and director of “Tale Spinners”, a dynamic theatre troupe of young actors who bring stories to life for audiences throughout the province with their energetic, polished performances. During the past 12 years, Carol has donated many volunteer hours, organizing and overseeing projects that benefited Interfaith Food Bank. She also served on the Friends Committee for 4 years. She is honoured to serve on the Board of directors, and is committed to Interfaith Food Bank’s mission.
Jan Roth, Director
Jan has been a resident of Lethbridge for almost 30 years. She is a Chartered Accountant and has worked in public practice, private industry, non-profit organizations, and government funded entities such as the U of L and Holy Spirit Roman Catholic School Division. She is currently employed as a financial analyst for the Southwest Alberta Children and Family Services Authority. While researching opportunities to “give back” to her community, the receipt of an Interfaith Food Bank newsletter requesting applications for directors was serendipitous. Being a long time financial supporter of the IFB and through her exposure to children and young adults in both her work and volunteer activities, it was a “no-brainer” for her to apply for a director position. Subsequently, she was interviewed, nominated and was ratified as a director.
Robin Goates, Director
Robin was born in Lethbridge and grew up in Calgary, living in Lethbridge again since 1978. She is married with three grown children and three grandchildren. As a long-time faculty member at Lethbridge College, Robin teaches courses in interpersonal communications, presentations, and helping relationships. She recently completed a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Simon Fraser University. She believes in the role of the Interfaith Food Bank and is glad to be able to serve as a board member.
Cheri Komar, Director
Cheri is a long time Lethbridge resident with an extensive history of volunteering throughout the area. She is a registered nurse, and currently employed as a Health Care Analyst with the Seniors’ Health program in the South Zone of the province. She decided to join the Board of Directors of Interfaith because of her knowledge and expertise in developing policies and procedures for non-profit organizations. When she’s not working she’s completing studies for her master’s degree, reading, doing crafts or indulging her cats.
Erin Sullivan, Director
Erin is originally from Calgary, but has been fortunate enough to have called Lethbridge home since 2004. She moved here to attend the University of Lethbridge and was connected with Interfaith Food Bank in her final year of school through the volunteer component of a not-for-profit management class. Erin volunteered in both the Garage Sale and Client Intake before being offered the position of Volunteer Coordinator in late 2007 following the completion of her human resource management degree. In 2009 Erin's involvement with Interfaith changed shape again, as she said goodbye to an employment relationship and welcomed a new chapter as a member of the Board of Directors. She currently works for Alberta Health Services and is pursuing her Canadian Human Resources Practitioner (CHRP) designation.
Vicki Diehl, Director
Originally from Sceptre, SK, Vicki moved to Lethbridge in the fall of 2008 to attend the Lethbridge College Interior Design program. Having learned about Interfaith through the college, Vicki began her experience with the food bank by volunteering to prepare baby bundles & diabetic packs. Having previously obtained a diploma in Food & Nutrition at Kelsey, SIAST, the opportunity to volunteer at Interfaith Food Bank fit nicely with her skill set. In the fall of 2009, Vicki accepted a position on the Board of Directors, and continues to volunteer with food bank operations as well.
